Payment Options

Who gets an email receipt, how quickly card payments reach your bank, and the client-facing Payment Portal.

You'll find this page in Settings under Financial.

The Payment Options page controls what happens around a payment once it’s processed. It only applies when a payment processor is connected; until then, the page just points you to the Banking page to set one up.

Email Receipts

Choose who automatically receives an email receipt when a payment is processed:

  • The client on the case.
  • The payer, when someone other than the client paid (a parent paying for a child’s case, for example).
  • Yourself, a copy to the firm. When this is on, you set the To address and optional CC and BCC addresses.

Payouts

Same-day payouts move funds from settled card payments to your bank account the same day, instead of the standard next-business-day timing. The payment processor charges 0.1% of the payout amount for same-day funding, so leave this off if you’d rather keep standard timing for free.

Payment Portal

Enable the Payment Portal and every invoice carries a link and barcode that takes the client to a quick payment page, where they can pay the amount due or deposit into their trust account to meet a minimum trust balance. Payments made through the portal appear throughout Outlaw Practice immediately.

With the portal on, three more choices appear:

  • Send payment link to benefactor(s)?: benefactors (payers other than the client) get an email with a payment link.
  • Send invoice contents to benefactor(s)?: shown once the link option is on. Benefactors receive the invoice itself rather than just a link. Either way, the invoice’s notes are included in the email.
  • CC emailed invoice to the firm?: copy every sent invoice to an email address you specify.
