Groups

Named sets of users that tasks can be assigned to. Any member can claim and work a group task.

You'll find this page in Settings under Firm.

A group is a named set of users that tasks can be assigned to. When a task is assigned to a group instead of a person, any member of that group can claim it and work it. This is useful for work that more than one person is qualified to do, so nobody has to manually reassign tasks when the original assignee gets overloaded.

What a Group Records

  • Name (required): what the group is called when assigning tasks.
  • Members: pick any of your enabled users. A user can belong to any number of groups.
  • Description: what the group is for.

How Group Assignment Behaves

A task can only be assigned to a group while no time has been tracked on it. The moment someone starts the task, it becomes their time entry and is permanently theirs; that’s the claim. From then on it behaves like any other task. (In Outlaw, tasks and time entries are the same thing; see Tasks and time.)

Deleting a Group

A group that is still used by tasks can’t be deleted; reassign or finish that work first. Only administrators can add, edit, or delete groups.
